Comparing RTO and RTS Twist Caps

When comparing the two profiles side by side you can see the regular version (RTO) has more metal and sealing compound than the stepped version (RTS). The sealing compound in RTS caps is targeted to the sealing surface of the glass container. This can be seen graphically in the above comparison where most of the sealing compound in an RTO cap serves no functional purpose.
